June 9, 2013

The Reher Center for Immigrant Culture and History hosted a first of its kind block party in Kingston on Sunday, June 9, 2013, in Gallo Park, West Strand’s waterfront park.  The event coincided with New York State’s Path Through History program. The purpose of the block party was to create a format to celebrate the cultural diversity of the Kingston community We intend to make the Block Party an annual event.

The event was family friendly, free of charge and open to the community.  Participating groups included: the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Chabad of Ulster County, Faith Church of God, the Hellenic Youth Dance Group, the Irish Cultural Center, the Jewish Federation of Ulster County, Humanamente, La Voz, the New Progressive Baptist Church, Somos La Llave, Sons of Norway and more.  The day’s events included music, dance, theatrical performances, children’s activities and food related to many of the specific cultural groups involved.
